Whenever you hear the word mint, many good and few bad things may come to your mind. That's right! Mint has bad reputation for no reason. which is , mint is of predatory nature and takes over the garden from other plants. It spreads so fast that within few months you will see mint every where in your garden.

You can take care of this problem very easily. Just don't grow mint near the other plants. You can sow mint in abandoned places where you cant grow much or cant use that place otherwise.

Mint grows very fast, that means you can harvest as much as you want. If you cut too much of mint ,still it will grow back. means you can have unlimited supply of mint for your kitchen at no cost.

Mint grows really well in shades. So you can grow in verandas or by the walls where you can grow other plants due to absence of sun light. so all of those shady places which are neglected and doesn't look good because of no greenery , Mint is the best solution. It will make those places green and alive.

Mint is very helpful in attracting beneficial insects and repels the harmful ones.So growing mint near flower will help them fertilize easily.

Mint is very beneficial for pets for example cats and dogs.Chickens and parrots eat that too.Mint has digestive properties that's why it keeps the pets healthy but keep in mind that pets don't consume it a lot.

7 Signs You Should Stay Away From Fast Food

Today i will tell you the 7 signs if you observe in your daily life, you should be serious about changing your diet plan.

1)-Obesity

Obesity is a serious problem these days. It means that body has too much fat stored.
Due to fast food consumption, body doesn't remain same tolerant for other food like fruits and vegetables. Hence there is a craving for fast food which causes more fat storage in the body. i have wrote a complete article on Obesity. Click the link

2)-Heart Disease

Heart disease occurs when fat starts clogging the arteries and blood supplies start slowing. This is because fast foods are highly saturated in fat and cholesterol. So daily intake or even 3 or 4 times intake in a week may cause serious heart disease.

3)-Diabetes

People who consume higher intakes of fast food may develop type 2 diabetes. this type of diabetes develop because body absorbs high level of sugar and carbohydrates from junk food which then absorbs in blood. If this high level of sugar stays in the blood for long period of time, may cause number of other diseases.

4)-Peptic Ulcer

Peptic ulcer occurs when lining in stomach starts breaking. This pain starts when eating food and will result in sleepless nights. The pain is too much to bear. Peptic ulcer starts due to spicy foods rich in oil and fat.

5)-Irregular Timing of Eating

Irregular timing of eating will result eating more fast food and less proper meals. This in turn will cause Obesity as fast food digest quickly and body craves more food to digest and you end up eating more food.

6)-Lack of Essential Nutrients

A well-balanced food contains all essential vitamins and minerals required for healthy body to function properly. But fast food may not have all these elements, this type of food contains high quantity of fat and cholesterol and some proteins but no vitamins, iron, potassium and zinc. The deficiency of such minerals may result in serious consequences.

7)-Stress

It has been observed that a meal saturated with fat can increase your stress level. Certain foods and drinks act as powerful stimulants to the body and hence are a direct cause of stress. Fast foods, contain synthetic additives – preservatives, emulsifiers, thickeners, stabilizers and flavor-enhancers.

Obesity is becoming a worldwide Problem

When we read or hear the word Obesity, the first thing comes to mind is over consumption of food.
Actually its more than that. Obesity occurs when body is unable to burn calories. food start to store in the body in the form of fat and body starts to gain weight.

Obesity becomes the chronic disease just like high blood pressure or diabetes.  In long run it may cause death. If a person is obese and also a smoker or have high blood pressure then chances of death will be quite high.

There is is a general rule of thumb to measure obesity. If Body mass index is more than 30 then you are obese for sure. BMI is weight ratio to height.

Before it was assumed that only developed countries like USA or European countries are facing this problem. But if you study the current statistics than you will realize that its becoming the global problem as more people are getting educated and they stay seated during their desk jobs hence burning less calories than intake.

As you can see that most of the Asian developing countries are also in top ten obese countries in the world.

There are many reasons of Obesity.

1) Food intake is the first of course.
2) Genetics plays a vital role in obesity. If genes are efficient in metabolism then less chances of Obesity.
3)It also depends on your family life style. For example i have seen many cases  where One or both of the parents are obese and results the obesity in children.
4)Some emotions also trigger hunger. i know many people who start eating when they are angry or sad , even though its not very common but still it happens.
5)Environment plays a vital role for this problem. For example if there is no gym or park around your house and people tend to stay at home then chances are there will be more obesity in the area.
6)Gender also affects the obesity, Men have more muscles than women , so they burn more calories hence women tend to be more obese than men.
7)Age results in obesity as you might have noticed that as people get older ,they become fatter.

So question is how do we treat obesity? Answer is real simple. Eat less and workout more. Most of people try to reduce weight by other means like surgery which i think isn't a good idea. Because it may cause problem in near future.

Medical advisers recommend to reduce 500 calories a day or burning 500 calories a day will result in one pound of weight loss in each week.
There are other medications in market but i will recommend the exercise only as it's more beneficial than any other thing available yet.

Make your body rock hard

I have been observing people working out for quite a bit of time in different gyms at different places, and one thing i felt that most of those people came to gym regularly but still there was no improvement in their body muscles. then i start to watch carefully about their techniques and routines and i found lot of flaws in those routines. This article is specifically for those enthusiasts who want improvement in their muscles.
Ready to rethink your workout? Let's start our routine. The keys to success with this program are to pick heavy weight; Now the beauty of work out is in the right knowledge about how much calories you have to burn so that you only burn fat and not affect your muscle mass.
Below is the training split you’ll follow for five weeks. This split not only allows you to train every body part at least once a week, but it also supports recovery so that you’ll be at your peak strength by the start of every week.

Training Split

DayBody Part
MondayBiceps,Triceps
TuesdayShoulders, Chest,Back
WednesdayThighs, abs
ThursdayBiceps,Triceps,Shoulders
FridayChest,Back,Abs
Saturday Thighs, abs
Sunday Rest

On rest day just follow your diet plan and enjoy your life . You can rearrange  your rest day with your work out days, but you should include full rest day each week. Keep in mind this does mean rest—no playing intense sports or staying up all night.

Bodybuilders often prioritize their time in the gym and undervalue their recovery. When you’re training hard and dieting, your body needs a break. Having full rest day helps that recovery.

Happy workout guys!

E-Cigarettes are not best way to quit smoking

For some time i have been observing people smoking e-cigarettes claiming that they intent to quit tobacco.
In my opinion using this product is quite useless as i haven't found a single person who used e-cigarettes and quit smoking.

People using e-cigarettes claim that its harmless as compared to tobacco but unfortunately there isn't much research on e-cigarettes. who knows what kind of side effects it may contain.
Smokers who smoke e-cigarettes also smoke regular cigarettes as they try to shift from tobacco to e-cigarettes but they unknowingly start smoking both. i observed many instances where smokers carried both in their pockets.

Trend among teenagers to smoke e-cigarettes lead to smoke tobacco. So advertisements claiming that e-cigarettes help quit smoking should be banned.

Health benefits of sesame seeds

One of the first oil seeds known to humankind, sesame seeds are used in culinary as well as in traditional medicines for their nutritive, preventive, and curative properties. Its oil seeds are sources for some phyto-nutrients such as omega-6 fatty acids, flavonoid phenolic anti-oxidants, vitamins and dietary fiber with potent anti-cancer as well as health promoting properties.
Sesame plant is a tall annual herb of the pedaliaceae family, which grows extensively in Asia, particularly in Burma, China, and Pakistan. It is also one of main commercial crops in Nigeria, Sudan and Ethiopia. Its scientific name: Sesamum indicum.
The plant requires well-drained sandy soil and tropical environment to flourish. It grows to about 5 feet tall and bears plenty of pink-white foxglove type flowers. The pods appear soon containing white, brown, or black seeds depending up on the cultivar type, arranged in rows inside. Each pod (2-5 cm in length) is a long rectangular box like capsule with deep grooves on its sides. A pod (1 to 3 in. in length) may contain up to 100 or more seeds.
Sesame seeds are small, almost oblate in shape featuring pleasant nutty flavor and high oil content.

Health benefits of sesame seeds

  • Delicious, crunchy sesame seeds are widely considered healthful foods. They are high in energy but contain many health benefiting nutrients, minerals, antioxidants and vitamins that are essential for wellness.
  • The seeds are especially rich in mono-unsaturated fatty acid oleicacid, which comprise up to 50% fatty acids in them. Oleic acid helps to lower LDLor "bad cholesterol" and increase HDL or "good cholesterol" in the blood. Research studies suggest that Mediterranean diet which is rich in mono-unsaturated fats help to prevent coronary artery disease and stroke by favoring healthy lipid profile.
  • The seeds are also very good source of dietary proteins with fine quality amino acids that are essential for growth, especially in children. Just 100 g of seeds provide about 18 g of protein (32% of daily-recommended values).
  • In addition, sesame seeds contain many health benefiting compounds such as sesamol(3, 4-methylene-dioxyphenol), sesaminol, furyl-methanthiol, guajacol (2-methoxyphenol), phenylethanthiol and furaneol, vinylguacol and decadienal. Sesamoland sesaminolare phenolic anti-oxidants. Together, these compounds help stave off harmful free radicals from the body.
  • Sesame is amongst the seeds rich in quality vitamins and minerals. They are very good sources of B-complex vitamins such as niacin, folic acid, thiamin (vitamin B1), pyridoxine (vitamin B6), and riboflavin.
  • 100 g of sesame contains 97 mcg of folic acid, about 25% of recommended daily intake. Folic acid is essential for DNA synthesis. When given in expectant mothers during peri-conception period, it may prevent neural tube defects in the baby.
  • Niacinis another B-complex vitamin found abundantly in sesame. About 4.5 mg or 28% of daily-required levels of niacin is provided by just 100 g of seeds. Niacin help reduce LDL-cholesterol levels in the blood. In addition, it enhances GABA activity inside the brain, which in turn helps reduce anxiety and neurosis.
  • The seeds are incredibly rich sources of many essential minerals. Calcium, iron, manganese, zinc, magnesium, selenium, and copper are especially concentrated in sesame seeds. Many of these minerals have vital role in bone mineralization, red blood cell production, enzyme synthesis, hormone production, as well as regulation of cardiac and skeletal muscle activities.
Just a hand full of sesame a day provides enough recommended levels of phenolic anti-oxidants, minerals, vitamins and protein.

Advantages and disadvantages of mineral water

Unheard of only a generation ago, bottled water has become a ubiquitous part of World's experience. Many people keep one with them at all times, going through several per day, thinking they are doing a good thing. It's certainly healthier for your body than soda or other sugary drinks, and it's definitely convenient. But habitually buying bottled water does nothing good for your wallet or the planet.

Convenient

The main selling point of bottled water is the convenience. It's comforting to have a ready supply of drinking water with you when you're in the car, hiking in the mountains, out for a run or anywhere that water is not easily accessible. Without bottled water, many people may turn to sugar-laden sodas and juices to quench an inconvenient thirst. Bottled water is a healthier alternative when it comes to staying hydrated on the go.

Regulated/Clean

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulates the production of bottled water, so you can be sure that the water in that bottle is clean and free of contaminants. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulates your tap water the same way, but clean tap water is not always available. After natural disasters, water lines may be disrupted, and water treatment plants may be temporarily offline, which means that the water supply coming into your home may be contaminated or completely nonexistent. In these cases, bottled water can literally be a lifesaver.

Expensive

Depending on the size of the bottle and the brand, bottled water varies dramatically in price. The one thing that is constant is that it always costs more than filling a glass at your sink. When you buy a bottle of water, the water itself only costs a few cents -- the rest of the money goes toward packaging, shipping, advertising and other administrative costs, with about 25 to 30 percent left over as profit for the manufacturer. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, bottled water is more expensive than milk, wine or oil.

Wasteful

The biggest problem with bottled water is the waste. When the water's gone, the bottle remains. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation says that Americans used 31 billion bottles of water in 2006, and the bottles used in New York alone would reach the moon if they were stacked. Ninety percent of water bottles end up in the trash, wasting the energy and materials it took to make them, as well as landfill space and the resources necessary to make new bottles. Recycle your empty water bottle every time. Better yet -- purchase a reusable water bottle and refill it from the tap to save money and the environment.

Health benefit of Soup

As everybody knows that the winter is coming and lot of preparations are being made related to cloths, food etc. So my today's topic is about soup.

Unlike what happens during stewing and frying, vegetables, mushrooms, meat and poultry cooked directly in soups conserve much more of their natural nutrients, vitamins and general essence. And despite the fact that soups usually contain a lot less calories than the main dish, they aren’t any less nutritious or filling.

Vegetable soups are best because of their stimulating and health qualities, but soups in general are good because they help restore the necessary water balance, which in turn helps keep our blood pressure (and salt content) under control. If you keep thinking about chicken soup and its much-talked about benefits on cold and flu attacks, you would be happy to know that the old tales are true: chicken soup (especially if homemade or organic) has anti-inflammatory effects and can help lessen the symptoms of a cold. Adding a quick bowl of soup to your meals during the cold season can help you warm up, protect your organism and avoid unnecessary calories.

Other benefits of soup:

  • Low in fat (specially saturated fat)
  • Great for sick people and those who have trouble chewing, digesting or are recuperating from an illness.
  • Miso soup and other soups made with soy can help lower the risk of breast cancer. In fact, a recent Japanese study showed that their level of breast cancer is about 10 times lower than in the West.
  • Great during dieting periods or if you want to lose weight quickly for a special occasion. Do keep in mind that drinking lots of bowls of one specific broth (like cabbage) is unlikely to result in any more weight loss than drinking a variety of soups.
  • Thick soups (especially those that contain pureed vegetables, béchamel sauce or eggs) can be used as main dishes and are a great way to get more veggies into your diet.
  • Cold soups such as Gazpacho and Borscht are a great summer meal.
  • Most soups now come in a low-fat, low-sodium option for those who want more control over the nutritional content of their diet. Vegetarian soups are also widely available and can be a great option for those worried about saturated fat.

Almond is way better than any other snack

In the quest for luxurious locks, many people spend hundreds of dollars on hair products and expensive treatments every year. Between time-consuming visits to the salon and expensive trips to beauty stores, most people never consider that one of the best hair care products available sits on the shelf at their local grocery store. When eaten regularly, almonds protect the body against heart disease, diabetes and weight gain. Interestingly, they also pack a powerful punch in promoting healthy hair growth.
Loaded with vitamins and nutrients, almonds pack a considerably nutritious punch when eaten in moderation. In fact, the Nuts For Almonds website refers to the almond as "one of the most nutritious of all nuts." A 1/4-cup serving of dry roasted almonds provides approximately 45 percent of your daily recommended allowance of manganese and vitamin E. Additionally, the nut provides nearly 25 percent of the recommended daily allowance of magnesium. Magnesium is "an essential mineral for growing healthy strands." In fact, a deficiency of magnesium within the body has been linked to hair loss. When consumed properly, magnesium and other nutrients help the body to not only maintain proper functioning, but also encourage the healthy growth of hair, skin and nails.
One of the most important tips a person can follow to help the hair grow is to eat a healthy diet absent of foods high in fat or sugar. Along with their wholesome nutrition, almonds indirectly help you maintain a better diet. If you are snacking on almonds, you are certainly not snacking on potato chips, French fries or chocolate cake. Scientists have noted for many years that people who regularly eat almonds tend to weigh less than people who do not. Since a proper diet and healthy body are essential for proper hair growth and almonds indirectly improve your diet, it can be said that almonds indirectly improve your hair's growth.
Along with eating the healthy nuts, you can also apply almond oil to your hair for an inexpensive and effective moisturizing treatment. The pale yellow oil, which is extracted from almonds, features copious amounts of vitamin E and vitamin D. When a few drops of almond oil are massaged into the scalp, the oil gently smooths the hair cuticles and nourishes the scalp. If the treatment is done once every week or so, you will likely experience hair growth that is stronger, healthier and shiner.

Cashews or Caju

Mildly sweet yet crunchy, delicious cashew nut is packed with energy, antioxidants, minerals and vitamins that are essential for robust health! Cashews, or "caju" in Portugese, are a popular ingredient in sweet as well savory dishes.
The cashew tree is native to Brazil’s Amazon rain forest, which spread all over the world by Portuguese explorers. Today, it is grown commercially in Brazil, Vietnam, and Pakistan and in many African countries.
Cashew tree bears numerous, edible, pear shaped false fruits or“accessory fruits” called "cashew apples." A small bean shaped, grey color “true fruit” is firmly adhering to lower end of these apples appearing like a clapper in the bell. This true fruit is actually a drupe, featuring hard outer shell enclosing a single edible seed or the“cashew nut.” The outer shell contains a phenolic resin, urushiol, which is a potent caustic skin irritant toxin. It is, therefore, the outer shell is roasted in the processing unit in order to destroy the resin, urushioland then, the edible nut is extracted.
Cashew nut measures about a inch in length and 1/2 inches in diameter with kidney or bean shape, and smooth curvy pointed tip. Each nut has two equal halves as in legumes. The nuts are cream white color with firm yet delicate texture and smooth surface. Cashews have buttery texture with pleasant sweet fruity aroma.
Cashews are high in calories. 100 g of nuts provide 553 calories. They are packed with soluble dietary fiber, vitamins, minerals and numerous health-promoting phyto-chemicals that help protect from diseases and cancers.
They are rich in “heart-friendly”monounsaturated fatty acids like oleicand palmitoleic acidsthat help to lower or bad LDL cholesterol and increase good HDL cholesterol. Research studies suggest that Mediterranean diet, which is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids helps to prevent coronary artery disease and strokes by favoring healthy blood lipid profile.
Cashew nuts are very rich source of minerals. Minerals especially manganese, potassium, copper, iron, magnesium, zinc and selenium are concentrated in the nuts. A handful of cashew nuts a day in the diet would provide enough of these minerals and prevent deficiency diseases. Seleniumis an important micronutrient, which functions as co-factor for antioxidant enzymes such as Glutathione peroxidases, one of the most powerful antioxidant in the body.Copperis a cofactor for many vital enzymes, including cytochrome c-oxidase and superoxide dismutase (other minerals function as co-factors for this enzyme are manganese and zinc). Zincis a co-factor in many enzymes that regulate growth and development, sperm generation, digestion and nucleic acid synthesis.
Cashews are also rich in many essential vitamins such as pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), pyridoxine (vitamin B-6), riboflavin, and thiamin (vitamin B-1). These vitamins are essential in the sense that our body requires them from external sources to replenish and essential for metabolism of protein, fat, and carbohydrates at cellular levels.
In addition, the nuts are also containing small amount of Zea-xanthin, an important flavonoid antioxidant, which selectively absorbed into the retinal macula lutea in the eyes. It is thought to provide antioxidant and protective UV ray filtering functions and helps prevent age related macular degeneration (ARMD) in the elderly.

50 first Dates

Yeah! i know , you thought about adam sandler movie but this date which i am talking about is also not bad.....:) So lets talk about about dates.
Dates have recently become the healthier alternative to chocolate. In shops we can now buy different varieties of date – from dried and plain to stoned and glazed with pure sugar. The date itself is very nutritious but added Glucose is never a good thing. If you want to benefit most from this fruit, choose the most pure and natural version you can find. Sweetened dates will still have the benefits but also might carry disadvantages which are related to the overconsumption of sugar.
Dates originate from the Middle East and grow on palm trees. There are different types of date species cultivated which vary in size, colour and nutritional components.

Dates are made out of simple sugars, some starch and cellulose. When ripening the simple sugar content increases and fibre concentration decreases. Dieters have recognised this property and commonly use it for enforcing weight loss. Dietary fibre also might prevent abdominal cancer.

Even though dates are fruit they still contain small amounts of fatty acids, both saturated and unsaturated. There has been spotted an opportunity to use dates as a source of oleic acid which can be found in the seeds of dates. Also found in the olive oil, it has a lowering effect on the blood pressure and cholesterol levels. The problem would be though to ensure the digestion of these seeds to get any benefits at all.

They can be used in different ways, like making smoothies or putting in custered cakes etc or eating it simply as they are available.

Toxic paracetamol

Paracetamol is widely available and has been around since the 1950s. It is widely prescribed and cheap to buy over-the-counter, making it a common drug taken in overdose. It is a very useful analgesic (alone or in combination) and also is an antipyretic. It is normally found as a 500 mg tablet, but it is often combined with other active ingredients in various preparations.
In the UK it is the most common agent of intentional self-harm and is responsible for approximately 70,000 cases per year.It is the most common cause of  acute liver failure.
  • It is important to remember that, when used at therapeutic levels, paracetamol is safe and effective.
  • Paracetamol overdose may occur intentionally and accidentally; the latter due to the high number of combination products available over-the-counter.
  • Less than 150 mg/kg - unlikely
  • More than 250 mg/kg - likely
  • More than 12 g total - potentially fatal
  • Paracetamol can cause serious or fatal adverse effects at around 150 mg/kg for most adults.
  • The level is higher for young children. NB: Toxbase® says there is no choice but to treat children younger than 6 years the same as adults. However, there is a large body of data in the published literature that shows the threshold for likely hepatotoxicity exceeds 225 mg/kg for this age group and so using a value of 200 mg/kg is a safe option and reduces waiting times and the number of unnecessary blood tests with their associated distress.
  • There is a theoretical argument for increased risk with enzyme induction or low glutathione reserves. There are case reports of chronic alcoholics taking relatively small overdose (OD) or even therapeutic doses of paracetamol who develop liver failure. However close examination of these case reports shows up some inconsistencies and suggests that it is unclear that these all provide any substantial evidence supporting the hypothesis. Even the seminal paper that formed the basis of the UK guidelines suggests that there is no evidence base for the practice of a 50% high-risk line on the nomogram.

Coffee

In my childhood i never used to drink coffee as i didnt like the taste. But one day i read in a magazine about the benefits of drinking coffee and i was really amazed. So i started drinking it as a medicine and now i am big fan of coffee and i enjoy drinking coffee.
So here are some benefits which i read on different places and compiled for you guys.
  1. Antioxidant Rich - coffee, due to its high caffeine content, is a great source of antioxidants. Antioxidants are cancer preventative and help fight the negative affects of aging.
  2. Anti Bacterial and Anti Adhesive Qualities - believe it or not, Italian researchers discovered this interesting little fact as they were conducting experiments regarding their favorite national drink that was getting a bad rep by health researchers ("them"). Practically speaking, this means that coffee is proven to prevent cavities (provided you don't dump an ocean of sugar into your drink).
  3. Promotes Digestion - because coffee is a diuretic, it generally speaking, sends people straight to the bathroom. When I was doing my research for IBS articles, although some doctors claimed coffee may irritate the stomach, other doctors recommended it as one of the natural tricks to "help move things along" and prescribed drinking a cup or two a day.
  4. Improves Athletic Endurance and Performance - Believe it or not, coffee has recently been labeled a "controlled" substance for athletes participating in the Olympic Games due to the unfair performance advantages large amounts of the drink provides. Coffee has proven to increase athletic endurance as well as general coordination and performing abilities in serious athletes.
  5. Decreases Depression - studies conducted on school age children in Brazil demonstrated that children who drank a cup of coffee before going to school had a much lower instance of depression later in life than those who didn't drink coffee.
  6. Decreases Your Chances of Developing Parkinson's Disease - 6 separate studies conducted by researchers have proven that people who drink large amounts of coffee on a regular basis are 80% less likely to develop Parkinson's disease then those that don't.
  7. Decreases Your Risk of Developing Colon Cancer - studies have shown that people who drink 2 cups of coffee on a regular basis have a 25% reduced risk of developing colon cancer.
  8. Offsets the Damaging Effects of Smoking - coffee has proven to offset some of the negative side effects of heavy smokers, such as heart disease and liver damage.
  9. Treats Asthma and Headaches - asthma and headache medicines contain large doses of caffeine in them due to the substance's ability to treat their symptoms. The caffeine found in coffee, although present in smaller amounts, has proven to have the same positive affects on alleviating headaches and treating asthma.
  10. Reduces Your Risk of Liver Disease - studies have shown that people who drink 2 cups of coffee on a daily basis have an 80% reduced risk rate of developing liver cirrhosis
